Finalizing and what happens next
Finalizing is the moment an upload becomes part of your portfolio. You press Finalize upload at the bottom of the Review, Vintage accepts the upload, and it appears in Upload History as Accepted.
The confirmation is immediate. The work of folding the upload’s loans into your portfolio continues behind it: usually briefly, and for a very large backfill (years of history loaded at once), for a while. You do not need to stay on the page for any of it.
What finalizing does
Section titled “What finalizing does”When you press Finalize upload, Vintage:
- checks the upload one last time: every file in a group still shares that group’s columns, every file has an included Loan ID column, every status, flag, and transaction-type value is classified, and every reporting basis (whether an amount column is monthly or a running total) it had to ask about is answered. If any check fails, the whole upload is refused and nothing in it is accepted;
- accepts the upload and moves it into Upload History;
- starts adding its data to your portfolio, combining it with everything you have accepted before.
From then on the upload counts. Its loans appear on the Portfolio screen, its history feeds the Modeling screen’s curves, and its readiness becomes part of every later Review. If you later find it was wrong, you can reopen it or delete it from Upload History.
The confirmation you see
Section titled “The confirmation you see”The confirmation tells you which of two things happened.
| What happened | Heading | What it says | Where it takes you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your portfolio was already up to date by the time the confirmation appeared | Upload complete | “3 files accepted and ready for modeling.” | View Portfolio |
| Vintage is still adding the upload’s loans | Upload accepted | “3 files accepted. We are folding 48,000 loans into your portfolio now. You can leave this page. We will email you when your portfolio is ready.” | Watch progress |
View Portfolio and Watch progress both open the Portfolio screen; the label says what you will find there. When Vintage cannot yet tell how many loans remain, the second confirmation still says work is continuing and quotes no number. Either confirmation also offers Start another upload.
The “portfolio updated” email
Section titled “The “portfolio updated” email”When the work outlasts the confirmation, Vintage emails the person who started the upload once the portfolio is ready. The subject is Your portfolio is updated. A few rules keep that email honest and quiet:
- It is sent only when you had something to wait for. If the portfolio was already up to date when you saw the confirmation, the confirmation said so, and no email follows.
- It waits until the portfolio is fully ready, including the ranges and values the Segment Builder’s filters use, so it never arrives while a screen is still working.
- Several uploads landing together produce one email, naming how many. Two uploads started by two different people still produce one email each.
- Vintage’s own updates send nothing. When Vintage re-measures your portfolio for its own reasons, nobody asked for it, so nobody is emailed.
- During your organization’s first-upload setup, it waits. It would point at a Modeling screen that is not open yet, so it is held, and then replaced by the email that tells everyone the portfolio is verified and ready. See Your first upload.
Every email Vintage sends is listed in Emails Vintage sends.
While your portfolio is processing
Section titled “While your portfolio is processing”You can leave, start another upload, or go to any other screen. Vintage keeps you informed in three places.
The top bar, on every screen. A single quiet line says the portfolio is still being processed and links to the Portfolio screen. It quotes only what Vintage has measured: Processing your portfolio: 12,000 of 48,000 loans once every accepted file has been read in; the bare Processing your portfolio while a file is still being read, because until then the loan counts describe the portfolio as it was before (and likewise while a very large portfolio’s total is still being counted); and Finishing up your portfolio, with no count, once every loan is done and only the filter ranges remain. The line covers your whole organization, not one upload, so it can appear while you are partway through a different upload. It is hidden on the narrowest phone screens.
The Portfolio screen. Rather than show partial numbers, the Portfolio screen shows a processing state that says what is being processed and why, how many loans are done out of how many once that total is known, and an estimated time remaining once Vintage can measure a rate. It unlocks on its own the moment the portfolio is current. If you are already reading the loan list when someone else’s upload changes the portfolio, your list stays in place and a refresh notice appears instead. See The Portfolio screen.
The Modeling screen. For a Segment you have analyzed before, the Modeling screen keeps showing its last complete analysis, labeled with the date it reflects and how many loans have been updated so far, and refreshes itself when the update is done. A Segment analyzed for the first time while the portfolio is processing waits, and on your organization’s very first upload the screen says the first upload is still processing. It never shows curves built from a half-processed portfolio. See The Modeling screen.
For a typical monthly upload this is over before you reach either screen. Only a very large backfill keeps the processing state up for long.
Starting the next upload while one is processing
Section titled “Starting the next upload while one is processing”You do not have to wait. A new upload’s Review is measured against your portfolio as of its last completed update, plus the new upload’s own data, and says so. While the earlier upload is still being added, that Review also says the figures may change when the update finishes, and refreshes itself once it does. See Reviewing before you finalize.
